You want to know if your idea will sell before you spend a cent. Most free plans do not actually let you find that out: they cut you off after fourteen days, or they let you build everything except the one button that takes someone's money.
That second kind is worse than a time limit. It lets you do all the work and then blocks the one step that proves whether anyone would actually pay.
If your trial runs out before you have tested a real sale, you end up paying for a plan before you know whether your idea works, which defeats the point of testing at all. You either rush a decision under a deadline, or pay to keep testing, which is not free anymore either way.
The version that blocks the payment button is worse than a time limit, because it hides the cost until you have already put in the work. You build the page, write the emails, and set the price, and only then discover that collecting money is the one feature that was never actually free.
This matters most if you do not yet have an audience ready to buy the moment you launch. Testing usually takes longer than two weeks: writing the offer, building the page, and finding even a handful of people willing to look at it.
It matters less if you already have a list of people who have said yes before you build anything. In that case, a fourteen day trial may be plenty of time, since the slow part (finding an audience) is already done.
If you already have money set aside and know your idea works because you have sold it before, just not online, you can skip the testing phase and pick a platform based on features instead of price.
